Material selection
What to specify before selecting a nickel alloy fastener
A practical checklist covering temperature, corrosion media, load, mating materials and governing standards.
Material selection should begin with the complete service environment, not the alloy name alone. State the operating and upset temperatures, process media, concentration, pressure, loading and expected service life.
The RFQ should also identify the mating material, product standard, dimensions, thread form, quantity, testing and documentation requirements. These details allow the material grade and manufacturing route to be reviewed together.
